Major U.S. Indexes Advance on Renewed Trade Talk

Adviser Investments’ Chief Investment Officer Jim Lowell has the market analysis for Monday, January 7. Major U.S. stock indexes advanced today as investors expressed relief over renewed trade negotiations. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, S&P 500 and NASDAQ gained 0.4%, 0.7% and 1.3%, respectively. Meanwhile, the Institute for Supply Management released U.S. service sector growth for December: The index fell short of consensus and declined 5% since November but continues to indicate “an economy that’s in expansion, not contraction, mode.” Tomorrow, we’ll see reports on small business confidence, consumer credit and job openings.
